Why it's time to ditch the snooze button

Let’s face it we have all played the ‘5 more minutes’ game.  Pressing the snooze button over and over again until there is just simply no time to play with anymore.

Then what you think was a round of luxury snoozes turns into a series of unfortunate events.

You stub your toe running to the shower

You burn your toast

You end up raising your blood pressure in the drive to work – eyes on the time cutting it fine.

You swear to yourself that you won’t make the same mistake again.  You will definitely rise earlier tomorrow.  But tomorrow comes and you find yourself in the same cycle of pressing that alarm snooze button like it is an unwelcome visitor that won’t go away.

It is a habit.  The cycle of late nights working and snoozy mornings is what you have been living every day as far as you can remember.  Like all habits it is difficult to break the circuit and you know deep down it is affecting your productivity, which in turn leads to a negative mindset.

To have the most productive day you must start the day as you mean to go on.  By looking after number one!

Now, unless you have been living under a rock you will have heard people talk about ‘Miracle Morning’.  The Miracle Morning is the brain child of Hal Elrod.

Hal Elrod has been through some challenges in life:

  • In 1999 at the age of 20, he was the top sales rep of a hundred-million-dollar marketing company.  Then he got into a near-fatal car crash, died for six minutes, and spent a year recovering.
  • After recovery, he became an inspirational speaker, impacting youth and continuing his marketing career.
  • In 2006, he wrote his first book, it hit #7 on Amazon’s bestseller list, and his publisher stole all of his money. He also decided to become a business success coach.
  • In 2007 he found himself half a million dollars in debt when the US economy crashed.
  • In 2008, he made it a personal mission to change his life around and began studying successful people’s morning routines which in turn led to the creation of Miracle Morning.
  • In 2009 after getting married he decided to share his findings of Miracle Morning which has resulted in an increasing movement of people who have discovered they can truly transform their lives by investing in themselves consistently first thing in the morning before they serve others.

S.A.V.E.R.S.

S.A.V.E.R.S. are daily habits that are grouped together as a set of short, easy to carry out habits. The habit stack is then treated as a single action to help you to become more, so you can achieve more. The acronym stands for:

• Silence (meditation or prayer)

• Affirmations (encouraging words which will motivate you to go after your goals with a feeling of confidence and self-efficacy)

• Visualisation (picturing and feeling yourself achieving your goals, being the person you want to be, and living your dream day.)

• Exercise (get your heart pumping and get oxygen flowing to your brain. It will wake up your body and prepare your brain to deal with the challenges of the day)

• Reading (filling your brain with inspirational words and/or knowledge that will help you to accomplish your daily to-dos.)

• Scribing (buy a journal and get into the habit of brain dumping.  The habit of journaling will allow you to clarify your thoughts and feelings by putting them down on paper)

At Laws of Attraction, we help people build strong, healthy relationships with themselves and their teams. It is no coincidence that we encourage people to start with themselves first.

The reason a flight attendant will instruct you to put your oxygen mask on before helping others is that you need to be 100% in yourself to lend a hand to others.  The same applies in everyday life.

So, if like many you think self-care is selfish or inconsiderate then practice Miracle Morning before anyone demands a piece of your time and energy.  No-one expects you to be at their beck and call at 5 am (unless you are a newborn baby but that's another article!)

So set your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual dials to the “well-being” setting at the start of the day and ditch that snooze button!

You won’t regret it.
